## Full description

Chalet Nulkka is a modern 2.5-bedroom cabin at the edge of the forest in Levi, the largest ski resort in Finland. It sleeps up to six guests and has a private sauna, a stone fireplace, a fully equipped kitchen and air conditioning.

The ski bus stops 300 metres from the door and runs twice an hour to the Levi centre, so the cabin works well without a car. The Levi Six slopes are one kilometre away and the cross-country tracks start 400 metres from the cabin.

We renovated the whole cabin in 2025 and furnished it with Finnish design classics. It is a place for families and couples who want an active holiday and a calm, well-equipped base to come home to.

### Living area and kitchen

The open-plan living room and kitchen are made for gathering after a day on the fell. The dining table seats six; the sofa and armchair face the stone fireplace.

The kitchen is fully equipped: induction hob, oven, dishwasher, refrigerator and freezer, coffee maker, kettle, toaster, cookware, tableware and wine glasses. Two TVs and a sound system are in the house.

### Bedrooms and layout

Ground floor: one bedroom with a double bed, a separate toilet, and a sofa bed in the living room for one extra guest.

Upper floor: one bedroom with two single beds, a partitioned lounge and workspace with a sofa bed for one more guest, and a second separate toilet.

That makes 4 guests in beds and up to 6 with the sofa beds. Blackout curtains and upscale textiles in every room.

### Sauna and utility room

The sauna area is built for an active holiday: a spacious sauna, a shower, a washing machine and dryer and a drying rack for outdoor gear. Ski storage is by the entrance.

### Terrace, parking and surroundings

The large west-facing terrace looks over the trees to the Levi fell. There is parking for three cars and an engine heater outlet for winter.

The cabin stands at the forest edge in a quiet part of Sirkka. The nearest restaurant is one kilometre away, and the ski bus stop is a 300 m walk.

## Levi and Lapland

### Autumn colours and the first auroras (September–October)

Ruska paints the fells red and gold in mid-September. Nights are dark again, so the northern lights season starts, and the hiking and mountain-biking trails are at their best.

### Early winter and the polar night (November–December)

Levi opens its slopes early with stored snow and hosts the Alpine World Cup slalom in November. December brings the blue polar-night light, Christmas markets and reindeer and husky safaris.

### Deep winter and spring skiing (January–April)

The most reliable snow in Finland, over 40 slopes, floodlit tracks and long sunny days by March. Easter is the classic spring-skiing week, and the aurora season runs until early April.

### Midnight sun (May–August)

The sun does not set from late May to mid July. Golf at midnight at Levi Golf, hiking to the Levi summit, fishing on the Ounasjoki river and quiet cabin evenings on the terrace.

- **Skiing and snowboarding**: The Levi Six chair lift and the north-east slopes are one kilometre from the cabin, and the ski bus takes you to the front side and the Levi centre in ten minutes. Lift tickets and rentals are sold at Levi Ski Resort.
- **Northern lights**: Chalet Nulkka is one of the better spots in Levi to see the aurora: dark surroundings, an open west-facing terrace and no need to drive anywhere. Clear nights from September to April are your best bet.
- **Cross-country skiing**: Levi has around 230 km of maintained tracks, many of them floodlit. The nearest track starts 400 metres from the door.
- **Golf under the midnight sun**: Levi Golf, an 18-hole course, is one kilometre away. In June and July you can tee off at midnight.
- **Hiking, snowshoeing and biking**: Trails start at the doorstep. Levi fell summit, Kätkätunturi and the Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park are nearby.
- **Safaris and animals**: A reindeer farm is 3 km away. Husky, snowmobile and aurora safaris start from the Levi centre.

### Getting here

- **By air**: Kittilä airport (KTT) is 15 km, about 15 minutes by car or taxi. Finnair flies from Helsinki several times a day in winter, and there are direct charter flights from the UK, Germany, the Netherlands and France in season.
- **By car**: From Rovaniemi about 170 km on road 79. Parking for three cars and an engine heater outlet at the cabin.
- **Without a car**: The ski bus stops 300 m from the chalet and runs twice an hour to the Levi centre. Grocery shops, restaurants and rental shops are in the centre, 4.5 km away.
- **By train**: The night train from Helsinki runs to Kolari (about 80 km) and Rovaniemi. Bus connections continue to Levi.

## FAQ

**How does the booking request work?**
Choose your dates on the booking page, send the request, and we confirm availability and the final price by email, usually within 24 hours. The booking is binding once both sides have confirmed and the payment instructions have been followed. No payment is taken when you send the request.

**Do you take bookings directly, without a booking site?**
Yes. Booking directly means no commission and a personal reply from the owners. The availability calendar on this site is the same one we use for all bookings, so what you see is up to date.

**What are the check-in and check-out times?**
Check-in is from 16:00 and check-out by 11:00. Check-in is self-service with a key box, so you can arrive late in the evening.

**How many people can stay?**
Up to six: four in proper beds (a double downstairs, two singles upstairs) and two on sofa beds. It suits two families with small children or a group of four adults comfortably.

**Are bed linen and towels included?**
They are optional at €29 per person, or you can bring your own. Final cleaning is included in every quote.

**Is there a minimum stay?**
Yes, 3 nights. Longer stays are welcome up to 21 nights.

**Can we see the northern lights from the cabin?**
Often, yes. The terrace faces west over the trees and the area is dark. From September to early April, clear nights give a good chance. We recommend an aurora alert app.

**Is the cabin suitable for remote work?**
Yes. Upstairs there is a partitioned workspace and the Wi-Fi is fast enough for video calls.

## Guides

### How to see the northern lights in Levi

When the aurora season runs, where to look from Chalet Nulkka, which apps to use and what the weather has to do with it.

## When

The aurora season in Levi runs from the end of August to the first days of April. It is not the cold that matters but the dark: as soon as the nights are properly black again in late August, the lights are back. The statistically strongest months are September–October and February–March, when the geomagnetic activity peaks around the equinoxes and the skies are often clearer than in mid-winter.

## Where to look from the chalet

Chalet Nulkka sits at the forest edge on the north-east side of the Levi fell, away from the lights of the centre. The terrace faces west and the sky opens over the trees. On a clear night, step out to the terrace or the parking area, give your eyes five minutes, and look north to north-west. The green arc usually appears low on the horizon first and then climbs.

If you want a wider horizon, walk 300 metres to the ski-bus stop where the road opens up, or take the car ten minutes to the shore of Lake Immeljärvi.

## Apps and forecasts

- **Aurora Alert Realtime** (free, Finnish) sends a push notification when activity is measured at the nearby observatories.
- **Finnish Meteorological Institute** space weather page shows the magnetometer readings for Sodankylä.
- Check the **cloud forecast** first. A KP index of 2 is enough this far north if the sky is clear; a KP of 6 does nothing under cloud.

## Practical

Dress warmer than you think. Standing still at −20 °C is very different from skiing at −20 °C. The sauna is a good place to warm up between attempts, and the fireplace keeps the living room ready for the next alert.
